Crack three-year-old sprinter Decision Time has strained a muscle which will rule him out of a potential clash with Black Caviar in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday week.

Decision Time had won the listed Fireball Quality Handicap over 1100m in impressive style at Rosehill last Saturday and with just 50.5kg the gelding's allocated weight in the Newmarket Handicap trainer Clarry Conners was seriously considering the idea of taking on sprinting queen Black Caviar with her 58kg.

The other alternative was to travel to Adelaide for the Yallambee Classic against his own age group on March 19.

This latest injury is one of a list for Decision Time who was spelled for the compulsory three months after a bleeding attack suffered in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes last spring and he also has feet problems that the stable carefully manages.

However there is no doubting Decision Time's ability with his second in the 2010 Group 1 Golden Slipper and wins in the listed Black Opal Stakes, Heritage Stakes and Stan Fox Stakes testament to his quality once Conners can get the three-year-old back to the track.

It is unknown at this stage when Decision Time will recommence his autumn campaign.
