Invest proved her Schweppes Oaks win in South Australia last start was no fluke when taking out the Group II The Roses (2000m) at Doomben on Saturday.

The supremely-bred daughter of Dehere sustained a long run out wide to overpower her rivals late, defeating Miss Artistic with Scorpio Queen.

"When they entered the straight (and she was five deep) I thought oh my god what have we done Pete (Mertens),” Conners told Sky Racing World.

"It was a pretty courageous win.”

Invest’s dam is Unearthly, one of the more talented fillies of her generation and winner of the 2003 Group I Flight Stakes. Conners said Invest would be given her chance to claim her second Group I race after nominating the Queensland Oaks in a fortnight her next target.

"She’s bloomed up here, that race will top her right off,” he said.

"We’ve always thought she’d stay.”

Conners won the Queensland Oaks with Zagalia in 2003 and again in 2006 with Allow.

"I love the winter in Brisbane,” he said.

"She’s (Invest) had a tendency to pull early in her career so I took the blinkers off her today. She’ll bloom now, she’ll bloom.”
