DECISION TIME WINS AGAIN
Feb 11, 2010
Four-time Golden Slipper winning trainer Clarry Conners unearthed another smart youngster at Randwick on Wednesday with the brilliant win of Decision Time.
The gelding took another giant step towards better races in the autumn with a 2-1/2 length win in the Panorama Terraces Handicap (1000m) after scoring on debut at Kembla last month.
Conners has a good opinion of the son of Foreplay and said he would give him his chance to qualify for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) in April.
"He's an impressive horse," Conners said.
"He won on debut at Kembla but we took him there instead of giving him a second barrier trial.
"Going into today's race I was pretty confident because he had improved heaps since his win at Kembla."
Conners said he was likely to look at a Saturday race for the two-year-old's next assignment, possibly at Rosehill on February 20 over 1200m.
"If he can win that then I will look to one of the lead-up races for the Golden Slipper," the trainer said.
Decision Time started favourite at $2.90 and showed an impressive turn of foot in the straight after jockey Nash Rawiller guided him to the outside fence where the going was best.
He raced away over the final 200m to defeat Gosetgo ($10) with Not A Pretender ($5.50) a further 1-1/2 lengths back third.
The way Decision Time handled the opposition at Randwick also impressed Rawiller.
"He switched off nicely outside the leader and I feel like in a better race he could be better ridden quietly because his turn of foot was electric," Rawiller said.
