NO HESITATION EARNS A BONUS
Jun 19, 2010
No Hesitation is off to the paddock after pocketing $162,000 for his connections by winning the Perfection Fresh Inglis Bonus Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The race was part of the popular $2.6 million Inglis race series and carried a $100,000 bonus to the winner along with the $20,000 BOBS bonus and the $42,000 in prizemoney.
“The bonus series has been a great idea,” Conners said. “This horse has won more than $250,000 now and $150,000 of that has been in bonuses.
“It’s a great concept and I’ve got some very happy owners because of it.”
With a big field chasing the lucrative bonus, the speed was on from the outset, which suited No Hesitation who travelled back near the tail of the field before launching down the centre of the home straight, hitting the front with 200 metres to go before drawing clear in the run to the line.
“It was a bloody good win,” Conners said. “He was so wide on the turn and I was saying, “hold him up Hughie [Bowman], hold him up.
“There were a lot of things against him today, coming back from 1400 metres with a big weight, he went up 3.5kg from his last win, but he was too good.
“He just keeps going forward in leaps and bounds.”
Conners said he would give No Hesitation a spell now and bring him back later in the year with the spring carnivals in Sydney and Melbourne as possible targets.
Another eye-catching run in the race was turned in by the runner-up Rose Of Peace who stormed home from last to grab second on the line from Inadequate.
What they said – “He couldn’t have been more impressive than that. It was only a winter field but he had 58kg and won easy,” said winning jockey, Hugh Bowman.
