Clarry Conners keeps the faith with J Cassidy in Dear Demi's corner
Sydney trainer Clarry Conners believes Hall of Fame jockey Jim Cassidy is the right man for the job to guide his talented filly Dear Demi to Group I success in Wednesday's $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.
Conners said Dear Demi has blossomed since arriving in Melbourne giving him confidence of a strong performance on Wednesday. On Monday, Conners hopes suffered a setback when Dear Demi drew the extreme outside gate but he quickly reminded himself of whom he had in his corner.
"It's a job for J Cassidy for sure," Conners said. "If anybody can overcome an outside gate in a big Group I, Jimmy can.
"He's a master at it."
Conners believes the big field in the Thousand Guineas should guarantee a truly run mile which he says will suit Dear Demi more than her last two Sydney runs where she finished fourth in the Group II Tea Rose Stakes and third in the Group I Flight Stakes.
"They were horrible races," he said. "At least they should run along on Saturday and that will help.
"We'll have to go back from the draw but there'll be pace on for sure.
"She will run the trip right out while a lot of the horses won't get 1600 [metres] so if it's a genuine test that helps.
"I'm really happy with her, she's settled in great and if she gets some breaks in the run they'll know she's there."
