DECISION TIME

Feb 26, 2013

Decision Time hasn’t raced since October 2011 due to a bruised tendon and  Clarry was hoping to give the son of Foreplay a searching hit-out in the trial to judge the five-year-old’s fitness levels with a view to when he would return.

Originally the  plan was  to trial the gelding over 1200 metres but the temptation of a course proper trial saw him put Decision Time in a 1000-metre heat on Tuesday.

"The club offered me the 1000-metre trial with the Group and Listed horses and because it was on the course proper I put him in it but then we got there this morning and three of the five including Hay List and Atomic Force were scratched,” Conners said.

"I had old Malambo in a later trial and they allowed me to put him in so there were three in it but I’d have been better off leaving him the 1200-metre trial and going around against Shoot Out.”

Decision Time won the 1000-metre heat by three lengths over his stablemate Malambo with Stout Hearted a further five lengths back in third. The heat was run in 59.7 seconds.

Clarry  said the purpose of the trial was to assess where Decision Time was at with a view to two races for the commencement of the horse’s campaign.

"I was looking at the Newmarket and the Challenge and now I’m just not sure if he’s done enough to be ready for the Newmarket,” he said.

"His trial pleased me and he had a good blow after it but i just wanted him to have a bit harder workout.

"I’ll just wait and see how he does over the coming days
